Who we are

What we collect and why

Server logs

Like almost every website, our web server records each request: the IP address, the browser and device type, the page asked for, the time and the page you came from. We use these logs only to keep the site secure, stop abuse and fix problems. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in running a safe, working website.

Clicks on See dates

When you click a See dates or similar button, our link records the time, the page you clicked from, the referring page, your browser type and a one-way code made from your IP address that changes every day. We cannot work back from that code to your IP address or to you. We use these records to see which pages and holidays are useful. Our lawful basis is legitimate interests.

Emails

If you email us, we use your email address and message only to reply, and keep them for up to 24 months after our last reply unless the law requires longer.

Other companies involved

Some parts of the site are provided by other companies. When your browser loads them, those companies receive your IP address and normal browser information, as with any website.

  • Cloudflare delivers and protects the site. It handles every visit and may set a short-lived security cookie (__cf_bm) when it needs to tell people from bots. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.
  • Awin is the affiliate network that pays us a commission if you book with a holiday company after clicking our link (Travelsphere works with Awin). When you click See dates, you may pass through Awin's link, and Awin and the holiday company use cookies or similar technology to record that we sent you. This happens on their sites, under their policies: Awin's privacy policy.
  • The holiday companies (such as Travelsphere and Newmarket Holidays) are where you check dates and book. Anything you give them is covered by their own privacy policies, not ours.
  • Google Fonts supplies the typefaces on our pages, so your browser asks Google's servers for them. See Google's privacy policy.
  • Wikimedia Commons is where our real photos come from; they are stored on our own server, so no data goes to Wikimedia when you view them. Some general scene images are illustrative.

Some of these companies may process data outside the UK. They do so under their own legal safeguards, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or standard contractual clauses.

Cookies

Svalbard Cruise itself does not set any analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, so we don't show a cookie banner. The cookies you might see are:

Checklists save your ticks in your browser's local storage on your device. You can clear them at any time by clearing your browser's site data. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict how we use it or stop using it. Email [email protected] and we will reply within one month. Because we hold so little, and the click codes can't be linked back to a person, there is often nothing we can identify as yours, but we will always check.

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk. We'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Children

Our site is for adults planning holidays. We don't knowingly collect information from children.

Changes to this policy

If we change how we use information, we will update this page and the date at the top.
